TORONTO -- After teetering on the precipice of extinction for the past six months, "Due South" appears to be back on solid ground for a third season.
A spokesperson for the series production company, Alliance Communications, told The Hollywood Reporter that they were close to nailing down both Canadian and European broadcasters to buy the show for another season.
The one-hour drama appeared to be dead after being dropped -- for a second time -- by CBS. "Due South" was the first foreign-originated drama to land a prime-time slot with a U.S. network.
CTV, which offered money for a second season of "Due South", is set to return for another round, says The Reporter.
Alliance spokesperson Rose Mangone said the series has been a consistent ratings winner for the BBC in England. Broadcasters in both Germany and France have aired the series in the past.
The Reporter says an off-network syndication deal is in the works in the U.S.
While series star Paul Gross is expected to return, the Toronto Sun's Claire Bickley quoted co-star David Marciano last week as saying that he's not especially keen to work again with Gross, and will likely appear in only a handful of episodes in season three before being written out of the show.
