THE STREET

is bustling about with activity. There are numerous FRUIT AND VEGETABLE CARTS lining the street.

HARRY AND TOM

are walking along the street , heading for the PUB. Just before they can enter the pub, they hear a voice call out to them. It is the DOCTOR (dressed up as a priest).

DOCTOR (O.S.)

Ah, excuse me.

TOM AND HARRY look back to see the Doctor walking up to them (from behind).

TOM

What’s up Doc?

DOCTOR

I didn’t see you two at my mass yesterday.

TOM

Oh yeah Doc, we were busy.

DOCTOR

I checked, Mr. Paris. You and Mr. Kim

were in the mess hall. No doubt busy with

idle chatter and an abundant supply of food.

HARRY

Ah, Doc….

DOCTOR

Ah, nothing, Mr. Kim. I’ll see you and Mr.

Paris in confession now, and in mass at 14:00

hours.

THE DOCTOR walks away.

TOM

(looking at the pub)

Great…well, let’s go in and do as much as

we can . We can confess it all later.

HARRY

Oh! I forgot…I’ve got to re-calibrate the

sensor logs before 12:00 hours. I’ll have to catch

up with you.

HARRY LEAVES.

CUT TO:

INT. VOYAGER/ HALLWAY

HARRY

is walking through the hallway and gets into the TURBOLIFT.

HARRY

Deck 10.

The turbolift takes him there. The doors open , he gets off and bumps into TOM 2.

Harry is startled to see Tom.

HARRY

(confused)

Tom? Didn’t I just leave you in the holodeck?

TOM

Huh?…Oh yeah…I decided to leave.

TOM 2 gets into the turbolift . The doors close.

CLOSE ON HARRY’S CONFUSED FACE.

MAIN TITLES.

ACT ONE.

CUT TO:

INT. HALLWAY/ OUTSIDE SICKBAY

TOM 2 is walking down the hallway, heading towards sickbay. Heis in pain. His entire

body seems to be in extreme pain .

He nears the doors of sickbay.

NEW ANGLE OF TOM 2

as he takes a deep breath and enters sickbay.

CUT TO:

INT. SICKBAY

THE DOCTOR

(dressed in Starfleet uniform), turns around to see Tom 2 enter.

DOCTOR

Ah, Mr Paris…

The Doctor looks behind Tom 2.

DOCTOR

Where’s Mr. Kim?

TOM 2

(trying to hide his pain)

I don’t know.

DOCTOR

Well, I suppose we could start on you now…

(getting sarcastic)

if we want to get finished by morning.

CLOSE ON TOM 2 as he attempts to smile (not quite succeeding). The pain he is feeling is evident on his face.

THE DOCTOR notices this.

DOCTOR

Are you alright, Mr. Paris?

TOM 2

I’m fine.

DOCTOR

Just the same…I think I’ll check you out.

The Doctor goes over to a DESK to get his MEDICAL TRICORDER.

TOM 2 quickly heads over to the Doc’s office.

ANGLE ON TOM 2

as he walks over to the Doc’s COMPUTER (on his DESK).

He starts to press keys on it.

TOM 2’S POV OF THE DOCTOR

as the Doctor (with medical tricorder in hand) is walking towards him.

DOCTOR

(as he reaches Tom 2)

Now let’s see…

The Doctor holds up the tricorder to Tom 2’s head. He begins to scan him.

TOM 2 (forcefully) pushes the tricorder away.

TOM 2

(shouting)

I said I’m fine!

DOCTOR

(becoming concerned)

I think you need to be checked, Mr. Paris.

TOM 2 slowly presses one last key on the Doc’s computer.

TOM 2

Sorry Doc.

TOM 2’S POV OF THE DOCTOR

as Doctor disappears (SPFX- DOCTOR FADES).

CLOSE ON TOM 2 as he sighs.

NEW ANGLE OF SICKBAY

showing the BEDS.

Tom 2 walks over to one of the beds and lays down on it.

OVERHEAD SHOT OF TOM 2

lying on the bed.

ANGLE ON TOM 2

as he takes out a FLASK (containing a YELLOW LIQUID) from his pocket. He opens the flask and drinks the yellow liquid.

He lets out a sigh of relief.

HOLD ON TOM 2.

CUT TO:

INT. BRIDGE

TUVOK is standing at his station.

JANEWAY AND CHAKOTAY are sitting in their designated seats.

HARRY enters the Bridge (from the turbolift).

CHAKOTAY

(on seeing Harry)

Sensor logs in good working order, Harry?

HARRY

(on his way to his station)

Yes sir.

JANEWAY

Now that’s the kind of news I like to hear.

HARRY reaches his station (in the background- b.g.)

JANEWAY

(to Chakotay)

The Doctor has been after me for ages to get

those sensor logs aligned.

(smiles)

Apparently, now his lectures will go faster.

JANEWAY AND CHAKOTAY exchange smiles.

JANEWAY

(smiling at Chakotay)

Whatever made me wait this long?

(pause)

Janeway to the Doctor.

There is no answer.

JANEWAY

Janeway to the Doctor.

There is still no answer.

JANEWAY

(turns to Harry)

Harry?

HARRY

(tapping away at his console keys)

I’m checking on it.

(pause)

The Doctor was taken off-line.

JANEWAY

Off-line? By whom?

HARRY

(tapping away at keys)

I can’t tell from here.

JANEWAY

Harry, get down to sickbay and get the Doctor back

on line.

HARRY begins to leave.

JANEWAY

And Harry….

(sternly)

I want to know who put the Doctor off-line.

HARRY

(nodding)

Yes, ma’am.

HARRY leaves.

CUT TO:

INT. ENGINEERING

There are many STARFLEET OFFICERS in engineering doing their jobs.

B’ELANNA

is working at a CONSOLE

In the background, Tom 2 WALKS INTO FRAME (and into engineering). He is behind B’Elanna.

CLOSE ON TOM 2

as he smiles on seeing her.

Tom 2 walks up to B’Elanna.

TOM 2

Hey…

B’ELANNA

(still working at her console)

Hi, I thought that today was Fair Haven day.

(getting sarcastic)

You tore yourself away to come see me?

I’m flattered.

TOM 2

I didn’t have to tear myself away. You win over

Fair Haven anyday.

B’ELANNA

Okay Tom, what’s going on in that head of yours?

TOM 2 extends his hand out to her.

TOM 2

Come with me and you’ll find out.

B’ELANNA stares at him.

B’ELANNA

Tom. I have a tonne of work to do over here.

TOM 2

This won’t take long.

He takes her hand.

B’Elanna reluctantly goes with him.

B’ELANNA

This better be good, Paris.

They EXIT FRAME.

CUT TO:

INT. SICKBAY

HARRY

is working on a WALL UNIT of sickbay.

He stops working and hits his COM BADGE.

HARRY

Ensign Kim to the Bridge.

JANEWAY (V.O.)

Go ahead, Harry.

HARRY

The Doctor was taken off-line manually.

CHAKOTAY (V.O.)

By whom?

HARRY

By Tom… I think he did it to avoid a

confession session with the Doc.

JANEWAY (V.O.)

Can you fix it?

HARRY

I’m on it.

CUT TO:

INT. BRIDGE

JANEWAY

(to Chakotay)

Remind me to have a chat with Mr. Paris when

he gets back on duty.

CUT TO:

INT. CARGO BAY 11

TOM 2 and B’ELANNA enter,

B’ELANNA

Tom, why are we here?

TOM 2

We’re gonna take a little trip.

B’ELANNA

Does Janeway know about this?

TOM 2 sticks a HYPOSPRAY in the back of B’Elanna’s neck.

B’ELANNA passes out.

TOM 2

I hope not.

CUT TO:

INT. BRIDGE

TOM

returns to the Bridge (from the turbolift). He is heading towards his station.

JANEWAY stands, as does CHAKOTAY.

JANEWAY

(to Tom)

We need to talk about personnel protocol,

Mr. Paris.

TOM

(looking confused)

Personnel protocol?

CHAKOTAY

(to Tom)

When you took the Doctor off-line.

TOM

(completely confused)

Off-line?

TUVOK

Captain, there has been an unauthorized shuttle launch.

JANEWAY

Hail them.

TUVOK

No answer. I will attempt to tractor it in.

It is not working.

JANEWAY

Who’s on board?

TUVOK

Lt. Torres and….ensign Paris.

JANEWAY, CHAKOTAY AND TUVOK look at Tom.

CLOSE ON TOM’S CONFUSED FACE.

CUT TO:

ACT TWO

INT. BRIEFING ROOM

TUVOK, CHAKOTAY, JANEWAY AND TOM

are sitting around the BRIEFING TABLE.

TOM

(angry)

How can I be on that shuttle, when I’m

here? Someone else is on that shuttle…

alone with B’Elanna. Captain, we have to do

something.

JANEWAY

We will, Tom.

Tuvok, why didn’t the tractor beam lock onto the shuttle?

TUVOK

Every time I would establish a lock , the shuttle

would disintegrate . It would seem that the material

this shuttle is made out of is highly unstable.

CHAKOTAY

It’s not one of ours either. All of our shuttles are

still in cargo bay.

TOM

(overly anxious)

An alien. It had to have been an alien ship masked

as one of our shuttles.

CHAKOTAY

But why would the alien single out B’Elanna

and take her?

HARRY AND THE DOCTOR ENTER.

Harry sits while the Doctor stands.

JANEWAY

Doctor, what can you tell us about this

second Tom?

DOCTOR

He came into sickbay. He seemed to be in pain.

When I tried to scan him, he tossed the tricorder from

my hand.

JANEWAY

Were you able to scan any of him?

DOCTOR

I might have.

JANEWAY

Doctor, I want you to go back to sickbay,

see if you can dig up any of the scan you took.

DOCTOR

Yes, Captain.

The Doctor exits the room.

SEVEN (V.O.)

Seven of nine to the Captain.

JANEWAY

Go ahead, Seven.

SEVEN (V.O.)

I believe I have found a trace on the shuttle,

Captain.

JANEWAY

(standing up)

On my way.

CUT TO:

INT. SHUTTLE

TOM 2 is flying the shuttle.

B’ELANNA is lying on one of the BUNK BEDS in the back of the shuttle.

She is ‘coming to’.

She fully wakes up and sits on the bed.

CLOSE ON B’ELANNA

as she looks at Tom 2.

B’ELANNA

Tom, what’s going on?

TOM 2

(turning back to see her)

It’s okay, B’Elanna.

B’Elanna begins to walk towards him but is stopped short by a FORCE FIELD.

B’ELANNA

(taken aback)

What…what is this?

(realizing)

You’re not Tom, are you?

TOM 2

It’s not what you think. I am Tom in every way

that counts.

B’ELANNA

(getting angry)

What are you talking about?

If you’re Tom, get me out of here!!!!

Take this force field down!!!!!!!

TOM 2

I can’t…not until you understand.

B’ELANNA

(pacing angrily)

Understand what? That you kidnapped me and

caged me up in here?

TOM 2

(sincerely)

I’m sorry for the deception.

B’ELANNA

(extremely angry)

When I get out of here, you’ll be more than

sorry.

TOM 2 suddenly gasps in pain.

TOM 2

Ohhhhhhh……….

B’ELANNA

What’s happening?

TOM 2 is in extreme pain. He eyes another FLASK of yellow liquid (which is far away from him).

He tries to get to it but can’t.

B’ELANNA

What are you doing?

TOM 2 presses some keys on a CONSOLE .

THE FORCE FIELD is down (SPFX).

TOM 2

(in tremendous pain)

Help me…..

CLOSE ON B’ELANNA’S FACE as she wonders what she should do.

CUT TO:

INT. ASTROMETRICS

SEVEN is working at her CONSOLE.

THE SCREEN, in front of her, is displaying a YELLOW PLANET.

WIDE SHOT OF ASTROMETRICS.

JANEWAY enters and walks up to Seven.

ANGLE ON JANEWAY.

JANEWAY

What have you got, Seven ?

SEVEN

A class M planet, 20,000 km away.

The disintegration of the shuttle left

behind trace particles that can be found

on this planet.

JANEWAY

(nods)

Janeway to the Bridge.

CHAKOTAY (V.O.)

Go ahead, Captain.

JANEWAY

(to Chakotay)

Seven’s transferring the co-ordinates of a

planet. Head there, warp 9.

CHAKOTAY (V.O.)

Yes Captain.

OFF JANEWAY’S MILITANT LOOK, we…

CUT TO:

ACT THREE

INT. TOM 2’S SHUTTLE

TOM 2

(still in extreme pain)

I need the flask.

B’ELANNA is thinking about it.

TOM 2

(sincerely)

B’Elanna, help me….

B’ELANNA walks across to the flask, picks it up and hands it to him.

He drinks the yellow liquid from it.

His pain subsides.

TOM 2

I always knew you had a soft spot for me.

B’ELANNA

(seriously)

Don’t bet on it.

TOM 2

(playfully)

Of course, it was ‘starfleet protocol’ that

made you help me.

B’ELANNA

(impatiently)

What the hell am I doing here?

TOM 2

(turning sad)

Do you remember when Voyager encountered a

planet that duplicated everyone and everything?

CLOSE ON B’ELANNA

as she remembers.

B’ELANNA

You’re Tom’s duplicate?

What are you doing here?

No, no, wait a minute, that planet is

light years away. We left that planet ages

ago.

TOM 2

We forgot who we were. We forgot we were duplicates.

(pause)

We also headed for the alpha quadrant.

B’ELANNA

(not quite believing him)

So, where is everyone else?

TOM 2

(turning grim)

They died.

B’ELANNA

(surprised and saddened)

What?…How did they die?

TOM 2

They disintegrated.

B’ELANNA

But you survived?

TOM 2

I got into a shuttle and left the ship

before it fell apart. I couldn’t stay…

(pauses)

I found this planet. That yellow liquid I drank,

comes from here. It keeps me alive.

It eases the pain of my disintegration.

B’ELANNA

You’re still disintegrating?

Why don’t we go back to Voyager, the

Doctor can have a look at you and maybe he

can find…

TOM 2

I’m too far gone. The pain comes too

quickly now. The yellow liquid is losing

it’s effect on me.

B’ELANNA

If you don’t need me to get help from

Voyager, why am I here?

TOM 2

I needed…

(takes a deep breath)

My B’Elanna and I were married.

CLOSE ON B’ELANNA as her eyebrows rise.

TOM 2

She died right after we were married.

B’ELANNA

(putting it together)

She disintegrated.

TOM 2

(with tears in his eyes)

Yes.

After a pause.

B’ELANNA

I’m sorry. I really am, but, I’m not her.

TOM 2

I know…I just wanted….

TOM 2 gasps in extreme pain.

B’ELANNA rushes over to him.

B’ELANNA

Tom, do you have any more of the liquid?

TOM 2

No..we…need…to…get…more…

from…the…planet.

B’ELANNA takes control of the shuttle.

CUT TO:

INT. SICKBAY

JANEWAY enters and walks over to the Doctor’s office.

The Doctor is there.

JANEWAY

Did you find anything from the scan, Doctor?

DOCTOR

(with a concerned face)

I’m afraid so, Captain. This second Tom

is actually Tom’s duplicate.

JANEWAY

Duplicate?…

(getting soft, whispering to herself)

Wait a minute, we did all leave duplicates

behind on that planet.

DOCTOR

Well, if they’re anything like this Tom, they’re

all in bad shape.

JANEWAY

(in a firm tone)

What do you mean Doctor?

DOCTOR

They’re dying…or rather he’s dying.

JANEWAY looks at the Doctor with tremendous concern (evident in her eyes).

JANEWAY

Can you do anything to help him?

DOCTOR

(shaking his head)

I’m afraid not , Captain.

OFF JANEWAY’S CONCERNED LOOK,

CUT TO:

INT. MESS HALL

TOM is sitting at a TABLE.

His despair is evident on his face.

NEELIX (carrying A CUP OF COFFEE) ENTERS THE FRAME FROM THE b.g. (background).

He walks up to Tom, puts the coffee on the table and sits.

NEELIX

(trying to be upbeat)

I thought you might want a cup of coffee.

(nervously)

It helps the Captain when she’s down.

TOM

Thanks, Neelix.

Tom doesn’t touch the coffee.

NEELIX

I know what it feels like.

TOM

No offence Neelix but…

NEELIX

(jumping in)

Kes. When she left…I felt so empty, so alone.

Neelix is lost in his memories.

NEELIX

(turning to Tom)

But…..you’ll get B’Elanna back.

TOM

Thanks Neelix…

JANEWAY (V.O.)

Senior staff to the ready room.

TOM

(to Neelix)

I’ve got to go.

NEELIX

(nodding)

Of course.

TOM leaves.

CUT TO:

INT. THE READY ROOM

JANEWAY is sitting at her desk.

CHAKOTAY, TUVOK, HARRY AND TOM enter.

JANEWAY stands and walks to the front of her desk.

JANEWAY

(to all)

The Doctor has just informed me that our imposter

is Tom’s duplicate.

TOM walks towards Janeway.

TOM

(to Janeway)

My duplicate…from that planet….

JANEWAY

That’s right Tom. He’s not in good shape.

CHAKOTAY

(figuring it out)

He’s disintegrating.

TOM

(extremely hyper)

But, what does he want with B’Elanna?

JANEWAY

We’ll be at the planet in less than an hour.

Chakotay, I want you to get an away team down

there to find out.

(to Tom)

Tom, maybe you should remain here.

TOM

Captain, with all due respect, I think I deserve

to be there.

TUVOK

(to Janeway)

It might be best , Captain. Mr. Paris

might be able to relate to his counterpart

more easily than the rest of us can.

JANEWAY

(to TOM)

Alright Tom…but don’t lose your head.

TOM nods but doesn’t quite verbally agree.

CUT TO:

INT. TRANSPORTER ROOM 1

An ENSIGN is at the CONSOLE.

THE AWAY TEAM ( CHAKOTAY, TUVOK, HARRY AND TOM) ENTER

They walk onto the TRANSPORTER PAD.

TOM (to the Ensign)

(with conviction)

Energize.

SPFX – the away team vapourizes.

ACT FOUR

EXT. THE YELLOW PLANET/ A CAVE/ DAY

Tom 2 is lying down on the cave floor. He is groaning in pain.

We hear SOUNDS OF FOOTSTEPS APPROACHING.

ANGLE ON THE CAVE OPENING.

B’ELANNA (coming out of the black of the cave opening) ENTERS the cave.

She is carrying a very small amount of the yellow liquid (in the flask) in her hand.

She walks up and kneels down next to Tom 2.

B’ELANNA

(referring to the liquid)

This was all that I could find.

TOM 2 nods, sits up slightly and then drinks it.

B’Elanna assists him in taking the liquid.

After he drinks it, he lays down again.

TOM 2

Thanks.

B’ELANNA

You need more.

TOM 2

There’s not much more left.

I’ve been here a long time.

I’ve used up most of it.

That’s why I had to see you now.

B’ELANNA

Because…

TOM 2

(softly)

Because I’m dying.

B’ELANNA gets up from off the floor.

She is uncomfortable.

TOM 2

She died before my eyes.

B’ELANNA is visibly upset on hearing this.

TOM 2

I was the last person she saw before

she died.

B’ELANNA

I’m sure…

(hesitates)

that meant a lot to her.

CLOSE ON TOM 2

as he stares tenderly at B’Elanna.

TOM 2

(tears line his blue eyes)

She meant everything to me.

B’ELANNA (pacing now) is extremely uncomfortable.

B’ELANNA

Look, I’m sorry about what happened, but,

I’m not her.

TOM 2

She came from you. You’re so much like her

(pauses)

To me…you are her.

ANGLE ON B’ELANNA as she gives him a sympathetic look.

TOM 2

(tears streaming down his face, voice breaking)

I didn’t get to say good-bye.

B’ELANNA walks over and kneels down next to him.

B’ELANNA

(defences down, whispering)

Oh, Tom…

She turns his head (with her hand) to face hers.

They stare intensely at each other.

B’ELANNA

(breaking away)

You’ll need more liquid.

(getting up)

I’ll go look for more. I’ll be back.

She begins to walk away.

TOM 2

(calling out)

B’Elanna.

B’ELANNA

(without turning back)

Try to get some rest.

I’ll be back soon.

CLOSE ON TOM 2’S DISAPPOINTED FACE.

CUT TO:

EXT. THE YELLOW PLANET/ A FIELD/ DAY

THE AWAY TEAM (CHAKOTAY, TUVOK, HARRY AND TOM) materalizes onto the field.

SPFX.

Everyone takes out their TRICORDERS and scans the area.

CHAKOTAY

(reading from his tricorder)

Over here….

He starts to walk off. They follow him.

WIDE SHOT OF THE AWAY TEAM as they walk across the field.

NEW ANGLE of the team as Chakotay leads them towards the cave.

They stop at the entrance.

HARRY

(to everyone)

There’s one life sign.

TOM

(to himself)

B’Elanna.

CHAKOTAY

(to everyone)

Weapons.

Everyone pulls out their PHASERS.

They cautiously begin to enter the cave.

CUT TO:

INT. YELLOW PLANET/ CAVE/ CONTINUOUS

THE AWAY TEAM enters the cave.

CHAKOTAY leads them to TOM 2.

THE AWAY TEAM’S POV OF TOM 2 as they near him.

REVERSE ANGLE (TOM 2’S POV OF THE AWAY TEAM).

TOM 2 is startled when he sees them.

CLOSE ON TOM as he sees TOM 2.

Tom’s anger is evident on his face.

TOM makes his way to the front of Chakotay.

He points his phaser at Tom 2.

They are a little way away from one another (Tom and Tom 2).

TOM

(to Tom 2)

WHERE IS SHE?

WHERE IS B’ELANNA?

TOM 2 doesn’t answer.

TOM walks over to Tom 2 and puts his phaser at Tom 2’s head.

CHAKOTAY

(to Tom)

That’s enough, Tom!

TOM ignores him.

TOM (to Tom 2)

(screaming)

WHAT DID YOU DO TO HER?

WHERE IS B’ELANNA?

TOM 2 shouts out in massive pain.

TOM 2

Ahhhh……..

TOM draws back himself (not his weapon).

CHAKOTAY

(to Tom)

Pull back ensign!!!!!

That’s an order!!!!!!

TOM (to Chakotay)

(with his phaser still at Tom 2’s head)

I CAN’T!!!!!!!!

B’ELANNA runs into FRAME (from the cave opening) holding a flask of the yellow liquid in her hands.

She runs over and onto the floor, next to Tom 2.

She looks up at Tom.

B’ELANNA

(to Tom)

Tom, don’t.

TOM lowers his phaser.

B’ELANNA

(to Tom 2)

I’ve found some more of the liquid.

TOM 2

(in extreme pain)

NO, no more. I just wanted to die looking

at your face.

B’ELANNA holds TOM 2 in her arms.

B’ELANNA

(to Tom 2)

Don’t…don’t….

TOM 2

(to B’Elanna)

I will always love you.

CLOSE ON TOM 2 as he closes his eyes and dies.

OVERHEAD SPIRAL SHOT OF ALL OF THEM IN THE CAVE.

SOFT CUT TO:

INT. VOYAGER/ B’ELANNA’S ROOM

B’ELANNA is sitting on her COUCH.

THE DOORBELL SOUNDS

B’ELANNA

(in a low voice)

Come in.

TOM ENTERS and sits next to B’ELANNA.

B’ELANNA

(looking down)

He loved her so much.

TOM

I know how he felt.

B’ELANNA looks up at him.

They stare at each other, move closer and softly kiss.

PULL OUT FROM THEM TO REVEAL ALL OF B"ELANNA’S ROOM (keeping them as the

focal point of the room).

CUT TO:

EXT. SPACE

VOYAGER

is flying slowly through space (SPFX).

FADE OUT.
