"There's not a single animated project—other than my own—that I'm looking forward to seeing more than Iron Giant."
——Matt Groening (creator of The Simpsons & Futurama)

In the picturesque town of Rockwell, Maine in the fall of 1957, young Hogarth Hughes embarks on an extraordinary adventure when a 50 foot tall robot falls to earth. Helpless, guileless, and alone, the iron giant becomes Hogarth's best friend and Hograth becomes his teacher, inseparable playmate, and protector. But when a paranoid government agent arrives in Rockwell, his investigation not only threatens the stranger and his 9 year old compatriot, but the entire town.

Loosely based on the 1968 novel The Iron Man by the late British Poet Laureate Ted Hughes, Brad Bird's film is a sweet, charming, and ultimately dramatic tour de force set in the Cold War era that is timeless, and solidly entertaining no matter how old you are. Whether you are an animation, science fiction, pulp magazine and comic book fan or not, you'll find The Iron Giant one of the best films of the decade.

Iron Giant captures nine Annies

HOLLYWOOD (CNN) -- "The Iron Giant" proved its mettle at the 27th Annie Awards Saturday, when the International Animated Film Society honored the animated feature film for achievement in TV, film, commercials, home video and interactive production.

Although the film has so far been an economic loss -- its budget was $48 million, and it's grossed only $23 million in U.S. ticket sales so far -- it won nine awards out of 15 nominations. Among them: excellence in character animation, effects animation, directing, music, storyboarding, writing, theatrics, individual voice-over and production design.

The production by Warner Bros., a sister company to CNN Interactive, is about a boy in Maine who befriends a metal-eating robot that falls out of the sky in 1958.

Read the August 25th editorial at Ain't It Cool News, which details the email exchanges between Gerald M. Levin (CEO of Time/Warner) and Brad Ball (president of Advertising and Publication), and see how your letters can help convince Warner Bros. to re-release this wonderful film during the holiday season with an all new advertising campaign.

Remember, above all, be polite, honest, and effusive. Rather than concentrating on the errors WB marketing made in their campaign, instead repeat how much you enjoyed the film, and plan to see it again. When it comes to write-in campaigns, always remember, you catch more flies with honey...
